As a human rights and gender specialist with a legal background, Heather has extensive senior-level experience in the design, development, and implementation of high-level strategies. Across her career, she has developed monitoring and evaluation for learning frameworks, assessed programmes for qualitative and quantitative impact, and supported civil society organizations to advocate for change. She has extensive experience in designing online and in-person inclusive consultation processes, including for structurally excluded groups. She has used a range of methodologies to capture reflections, including art, interviews, group discussion, and “mood polling”. As a member of a leadership team, she has spearheaded organizational refreshes to deepen impact, increase profile, and balance power.
Through her consultancy work, she has had the privilege to support organizations to define their strategies and organizational values, strengthen fundraising and external communications, review programme scope, and facilitate conferences. She is a strong writer, and has drafted speeches, briefing materials and presentations for senior leadership, fundraising materials for government and private donors (including competitive bids, one-page snapshots and proposals for core funding), communications for the public and media (press releases, newsletters, social media posts and blogs), and organizational documents (annual reports, organizational strategies, theories of change and logical frames). She excels at synthesizing complex documents into short, easy to access and often visual representations.
